Harvest Mouse Climbing A Hogweed Stem Ornament

This harvest mouse ornament is from the superb Sherratt and Simpson collection of animal figurines. It’s made from durable resin, painted in realistic colours. The figurine depicts an autumn scene, the harvest mouse has climbed to the top of a dried hogweed stem, using its prehensile tails to grasp and wrap around the stem for balance.

The harvest mouse is most common in the south and south east of England. Weighing less than a 2p coin, their preferred habitats are crops, tall grasses, hedgerows, verges and reedbeds. With the winter about to set in, it’s likely that this harvest mouse will build a winter nest, a ball of woven grass, nestled amongst plant or grass stems.
